Why Plinio?
The library wishes to pay a small tribute to this fictional character created by Francisco García Pavón who appears in several of his novels. The character of Plinio is a detective concerned with searching, investigating and observing human beings in all their dimensions. With Plinio, the library has attempted to imitate this Garcia Pavon character, providing a tool by which the users can search for all the information the library puts at his or her disposal: catalogue, institutional repository, databases, journals and electronic books, etc in order to help users in their academic and research tasks.
What is Plinio?
- Plinio is, in Anglo-Saxon terms, a discovery, that is, a cutting-edge search engine, which enables allcontents resources of the library to be searched, whether these are printed or electronic works. It has been developed by the company Ebsco and its trade name is Ebsco Discovery Service©.
- It enables just one search field to be run, similar to Google, to discover the whole contents of the library. Plinio is responsive to mobile devices.
- The results obtained on running the searches are presented in a ranking according to their relevance, so the most relevant ones appear at the start of the list. It provides many surfing possibilities and relationships between the search contents using a range of possible filters and the results have faceted classification. It also enables the results to be limited to full-texts available immediately in electronic format or academic publications reviewed pair-wise, for example. The way the results are presented makes it easy to evaluate them quickly and the data includes summaries, localization, access to the full-text, citations received...
- For each result, it provides information about the possibilities of obtaining the full- text, ifthe library subscribes to it. It makes it easy to export the bibliographical citations to EndNoteWeb, the online bibliographical managerprovided by the library and to copy and paste citations quickly in the main quoting formats.

- The library has added a new links resolver: Publication Finder.
- With Publication Finder you can search the journals the library has and directly go to the full-text.
- Searches can be done by title and journal subject.
- In most situations Plinio will link with Publication Finder to provide access to the full-text.

I can´t find [an article, book, resource] on Plinio. Where can I find it?
Can´t you find a book on Plinio? Do the following:
- Limit your results to «Content Type»: Book
- Run an advanced search on Summon using these options: «Using these words in the title», «Written/created by»
- Run a search by title in the Library Catalogue.
Can´t you find an article on Plinio? Do the following:
- Use an « exact phrase» search for the article title to restrict the results.
- To run an exhaustive search of an article: consult the publication title and see whether the library subscribes to this publication. Afterwards, surf by year or number to find the article you are looking for.
- Use the search engine Publication Finder of the library.

It seems the library does not have the document:
When I run a search on Plinio, I receive many results. How can I refine my search to find exactly what I am looking for?
- Use inverted commas with a phrase. For example: "Spanish constitutionalism"
- Once you have obtained the results, you can refine your search by using thelimit search options on the left menu, for content type, topical terms, language, dates, etc.
How can I order the results?
The results can be ordered by importance (content type, peer review, frequency term appears, etc) and by date (most recent or earliest reference).
When I click on an article or full- text or an electronic book, this message appears «This document is not available online». How can I access the full-text?
There are various reasons for which the «Full-text is not available » message may appear:
- There is a quoting error.
- The full-text version of the document is not available online.
- The UCLM library has no subscription to the online version of the journal.
These are alternative ways of accessing the full-text:
- For articles: run a search by journal title in Publication Finder to find out if the library has a subscription to the publication or journal you are looking for.
- If the library does not have the document, you can request this from the Inter-library LoanService of the library on your campus.
